Tracking List Backup During Installation
The Password Tracker Deluxe setup procedure
automatically backs up all of your Tracking List files that
are stored in the "Password Tracker Deluxe\Program"
folder. The backup files are copied to the "Password
Tracker Deluxe\Backup" folder.
If your Tracking List files are not stored in the default
location of the "Password Tracker Deluxe\Program" folder,
it is recommended that you backup the files yourself before
continuing with the installation.
Tracking List File Encryption
Starting with Password Tracker Deluxe 3.45, the default
file encryption does not use the Windows built-in file
cryptography algorithms. If you would like to increase the
security of your Tracking Lists, you can turn on the
Windows encryption to store your Tracking Lists by using
the Preferences command on the View menu.
Before turning on the use of Windows encryption, we
recommend that all your Tracking Lists be backed up. You
can backup the current Tracking List by using the Backup
command on the File menu.
One reason to not use the Windows encryption is if you
share a Tracking List file on two or more computers and
one of the computers is not setup to enable Windows
encryption.
In order to use the Windows cryptography algorithms,
one of the following computer setups is needed:
Windows 95 B (OSR 2), Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 or
above, or Internet Explorer 3 or above. To see if the
Windows encryption is enabled, use the Preferences
command on the View menu.
Backup Command
Since your passwords are very important, it is a good idea
to regularly backup your Tracking List. A backup ensures
that you have a copy of your passwords in case your
Tracking List file is ever erased or damaged.
In order to be able to recover your Tracking List in case of
a system crash, the Windows encryption algorithms will not
be used for the backup files. The standard encryption
algorithms will be used instead.
Please be sure to store all backup diskettes in a secure
location.
You can access the Backup command from the File menu.
